GGRMS December 8, 2023 w/ Stephen Baird of Groupe B

As the snow covers the ground of the beautiful Loyola campus in the neighbourhood of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in Montréal’s west end, Prince Palu and Oncle Ian once again assume their positions behind the sound board of the mighty CJLO to present another episode of The Go-Go Radio Magic Show. In the second hour they are joined by Stephen Baird (aka Vince La Schev, aka Schevy Bevy).

It has been just over six years since Stephen was last on the show to promote his first band, Bland, after relocating to Montréal from the suburbs of Ontario, and boy has he been busy! Playing in a number of bands (Broken Column, ORCHIDS, Double Date with Death) gave him the time to explore new sounds and a new instrument, the synthesizer.

When the pandemic hit, Stephen, like the rest of us, found himself at home, alone and with nothing but time. Looking for the silver lining, he began to contemplate life and music, and soon gave birth to his alter ego Vince La Schev and his new musical project, Groupe B. With the release of the debut album, Tech Noir, it was a pleasure to welcome him back on the show and find out all about his muscial journey.

Here is the full playlist that Stephen curated for the show, but like most weeks, the conversation was just too good so there were songs that never made the show. These particular songs were selected for the influence that they had in the creation of Tech Noir.
