Toronto psych-punk juggernauts Wine Lips return August 28 with TV Dinner, their fifth full-length album, arriving on Stomp Records. Pulling from the blown-out energy of The Hives, Osees, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Bad Nerves, and the melodic punch of Nirvana at their most immediate, TV Dinner is the band's most observant, strangely relatable, and complete statement to date. Still rooted in Wine Lips' signature collision of garage punk, blown-out psychedelia, and fuzzed-to-the-breaking-point rock and roll, the album trades escapism for everyday absurdity. It's loud music for loud times, packed with hooks, humour, and just enough chaos to make modern life feel manageable for thirty-five glorious minutes.

Introduce yourself… (Where are you from, what band do you play in etc..)

Hi, my name is Cam Hilborn, I'm from a small town called Winchester Ontario and I play in a band called Wine Lips.

Why do you play music?

CH:I play music because I love it! I feel like it allows me to unload my thoughts and frustrations in life. It's therapeutic and there is nothing better than getting in a room with your buds and blasting those amps!

What was a major influence on you as an Artist/Band? What’s a favourite book or film?

CH:As an artist I went to college for a music recording / business program and being surrounded by musicians and just focusing on all things music all the time was really inspiring. I was forced out of my comfort zone a lot during that which was a great learning experience and I feel like a grew a lot from it. Favourite book that was also inspiring as a musician was NOFX's hepatitis bathtub. I think just like the grind of the band for years with no money or popularity was cool to read about! Favourite film - The Big Lebowski.

Do you prefer the recording process or performing live? What would be a dream collaboration?

CH:I really enjoy both! I like the whole process of creating something from nothing, sitting back after and listening to what you recorded is very satisfying. I love touring, I love travelling and seeing new places and meeting new people. Bringing our music around the world is awesome. I don't know if I have a dream collaboration but I like the idea of backing up a guy like Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan as the band!

Describe a favourite album.

CH:Right now I really like wowee zowee by Pavement! It's like the perfect mix of weird raw chaos and chill nice melodies, it's all over the map really. Cool production but not overdone or over produced.

What's your favourite local haunt?

CH:When I lived in Toronto I loved going to the Bovine Sex Club. It's where we kinda started out playing gigs and they have a cool tiki bar on the rooftop!

What's your strangest experience while performing live?

CH:We played a big festival in France and people would be crowd surfing but also doing funny things like there was a guy reading the newspaper while crowd surfing or brushing his teeth. I like seeing that kinda stuff while we're playing.

What are some of your favourite aspects of being a musician in (your city here)?

CH:Well I live out in the country now but some of my favourite aspects of that are when I come home from touring I get to relax in a peaceful setting. It's great for writing and I can go for hikes and swim in the lake and come up with new ideas and try them out in my little studio.

If you weren’t playing music in (your city here) where would you be ?

CH:If I wasn't playing music I would probably be doing something outdoors hopefully. I'm not too sure to be honest, maybe a park ranger or something.

Any sage advice for young musicians?

CH:Just do it because you love it. Surround yourself with positive people you love. It can be stressful and unpredictable at times but just follow your gut and keep it fun.
