Pleased To Meet Me: Sally Phantom
Introduce yourself… (Where are you from, what band do you play in etc..)
Hi my name is Sally Phantom and I am a singer / songwriter from Montreal.
Why do you play music?
The reason I write and sing is because music is the only thing that truly connects with my soul. I have other passions, but none come close to the way music makes me feel. It brings me to life, offering a space to express myself and embrace my true, authentic self. Through creating music, I’ve healed in ways I never expected—it’s become my therapy. There’s nothing else in the world I’d rather do; it’s always on my mind. It’s hard to put into words, but music is simply a part of me.
What was a major influence on you as an Artist/Band? What’s a favourite book or film?
My influences are all over the place just like I am. Lady Gaga really had a huge impact on me when I first discovered her… she was the first pop star I really admired and related to.
My favourite movie is Where the wild things are , I wish I could go hang out with the monsters just like Max.
Do you prefer the recording process or performing live? What would be a dream collaboration?
Honestly, I love both because they offer two completely different worlds. Being in the studio with the guys is always a blast; I can just be myself, and we have so much fun. I love watching my vision come to life—it feels so natural when we create together. Then, performing is a whole different kind of thrill. The adrenaline rush is unreal, and on stage, I almost feel invincible.
Describe a favourite album.
Born This Way by Lady Gaga ! It is an electronic-pop album with a touch of heavy metal. In my eyes its one of the best album ever created it is a masterpiece. It had a big influence on me.
What's your favourite local haunt?
I love going to brunch at Bagel Etc. on St. Laurent with my best friend—it’s one of our favorite spots. The food is always incredible, and we’re both huge fans of the cozy decor and inviting ambiance. Plus, knowing that Leonard Cohen was a regular there just adds to the charm!
- What's your strangest experience while performing live?
No answer
If I were pursuing anything other than music it would be…
If I weren’t pursuing music I would be a thanatologist or a fashion designer.
What are some of your favourite aspects of being a musician in Montreal ?
Im kinda new into this world so it’s a hard question to answer , for now id say that I really enjoy working with such influential people.
If you weren’t playing music in Montreal where would you be ?
I would love to be in New York ! There is something magical about that city.
Any sage advice for young musicians?
Don’t be afraid to dream big. Give yourself permission to fail, and understand that failure is simply part of the journey to growth. Never compare your progress to others; remember, most of the people who inspire you started with nothing—just like you. Surround yourself with people who genuinely believe in you and support your dreams. Trust your intuition, stay true to who you are, and let your authenticity guide you. The path may not always be smooth, but every step, no matter how challenging, is a part of your unique story.
